Application Procedure for Short Term Scientific Mission

Short Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) is a COST instrument that aims at supporting scientists in developing scientific collaborations and strengthening existing networks by granting stays in other COST countries to learn new techniques or to use methods for maximizing the exchange of experience among the participants as exchanging ideas and knowledge across borders. More information on the COST STSMs can be found here. We invite all members of this COST Action to apply for STSMs.

STSM Grant

  • Reimbursement rate per day EUR 160
  • Travel expenses up to EUR 500
  • min. 5 days– max. 90 days
  • In total per grant EUR 2.500 maximum

Early Stage Researcher STSM Grant (less than PhD +8 years)

  • Reimbursement rate per day EUR 160
  • Travel expenses up to EUR 500
  • Extension up to max. 180 days
  • In total per grant EUR 3.500 maximum

Please note, that this grant will not necessarily cover all expenses but is intended only as a contribution to the travel and subsistence costs of the participant.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be engaged in a research program in an institution from a COST country involved in the Action. Both home and host institutions should be in a country participating in this COST Action.

Early Stage Researchers will have completed their MD or PhD degree less than 8 years ago.

HOW TO APPLY

The applicant must use the COST online application form respecting the deadline of the STSM Call. If you are an Early Stage Researcher (less than PhD+8years), please select the ESR button during your online application.

After encoding the information, the on-line registration tool will issue a formal STSM application which has to be downloaded and sent by the applicant as attachment per e-mail together with the following supporting documents

  • curriculum Vitae
  • full working plan for STSM (max. 3 pages)
  • list of publications
  • motivation letter
  • letter of support from the home institute
    • acceptance letter of the host institution

to the Action Chair (Prof. Eggermann) and the STSM Manager (Prof. Riccio ).

No STSMs will be funded without the approval and agreement of the host institution.

Recipients are required to submit a report following the STSM Report Template. No payment will take place before the STSM report is submitted and accepted by the Management Committee of the Action. The number of funded exchanges will be based on the budget and evaluation by the Action Chair and STSM Manager.

The COST Action BM1208 principally targets young and early stage researchers with individual support to conduct scientific and educational exchange between partner laboratories..
